A quick update...

Just to show my readers (who?) I'm still making progress with all the Atari 'projects' I define for myself this small update:

  • A huge amount of disks from the Dutch Public Domain Stichting ST have been imaged and are ready to be downloaded. See the list with links to the images here.
  • I started scanning some articles from Atari (related) magazines which describe self made hardware projects. On several forums there were requests for this kind of information, so here it is.

I will continue to work on the two mentioned projects above and there is still one major project for me to do: hobby room cleanup! My huge room is now crammed with Atari stuff which is now hindering me in doing anything productive :-) So somewhere in July I'll start to redecorate the whole room and give everything a nice place.

Discipline still not there, but Atari love hasn't gone...

I'm not a blogger, that's for sure... but not updating this page doesn't mean I'm not into my Atari's anymore! I'm still expanding my collection, playing with them quite a few hours a week and preparing a gift for the Atari community :-)

My own Atari page didn't get an update as well. The next update will be some photographs of (parts of) my collection and specifically the rare items.

Hope to be able to welcome you in the future with some more interesting news here.

Slow progress and no update discipline

Just to update the blog again... I'm still heavily dedicated to my plans of scanning and publishing a lot of old Atari info on my personal domain, but it is time consuming and progress is slow. However, check the site regularly for updates!

Attention is also distracted by my beloved machines. A few days ago I received my SatanDisk and had to testdrive it on as many Atari's as I own ;-) . This thing works like a charm. I've thrown several different SD cards at it (SanDisk 1GB and 2GB versions and some old 16 & 32MB ones) and it's eating them without complaining.

I'm also merging hardware from several different TT030's to get the best possible configurations. In one of my former posts I told you about the acquisition of a 4MB ST-Ram / 4MB TT-Ram model, but I ended up with a 2MB ST-Ram / 16MB TT-Ram with Spektrum 1 VME graphic card :-D . Sweet! But unhappy with the 2MB St-Ram I decided to take a 2MB-Ram from another TT and throw in a bigger SCSI harddisk as well.

However I've now some terminiation issue on the SCSI bus which I need to sort out before I will continue with my Mint installation guide I wish to finish on this 'new' old TT030.

Bye for now!

Starting of a(nother) new project

Hello again y'all!

After acquiring the stuff I listed in the former post I developed the idea to start scanning and publish all the Atari documentation I have collected. Although it will take me quite some hours to scan everything, let alone publish everything neatly into a website, I made a start last weekend. Have a look at my reinstated website http://www.atarian.nl/!

I'm off to my scanner again :) Bye

Back from holidays and some new additions to my collection

An unannounced holiday, just what I needed. And now I'm back with new energy and new additions to my Atari collection... almost. I have to collect a huge amount of Atari magazines and books this week (for free) as well as a TT (4MB ST-Ram / 4MB TT-Ram) with the huge 19" screen and two laserprinters :-b for only €50! Sweet...

I want to start (along with all my other intentions) scanning as much magazines, books and other usefull information and publish this on the internet to share with fellow Atarians. I assume copyrights won't be a problem anymore... otherwise I will get noticed :).

Stay tuned for some news on available scanned Atari information as well as on my other work with the beloved Atari's.

Mint troubles, but networking up and running

Two weeks later I disabled Mint temporarily but have networking up and running!

Why I disabled Mint? I had it up and running, but the networking part was troublesome and I kept getting errors on bootup related to one of the external modules. Networking is critical for me, I want to transport files easily over the network. I'm using a DaynaPort Pocket SCSI/Link together with the Anodyne Software drivers. So I didn't hunt down the problem and just set up Sting under Single TOS. It was a breeze together with the Anodyne drivers.

Next I installed HighWire to check out internet browsing on the Falcon. It was a bit troublesome, but in the end all was fine and I played with it a bit. Still need to check out configuration options to tweak it to my preferences, for instance default font settings are hard to use.

During the setup of Sting and HighWire I stumbled upon quite some posts on different fora concerning installation issues. I'll try to write a quick guide with example settings and post it here for reference for those Atarians who are struggeling.

Unix / Linux on 680x0

A nerdy Saturday night, digging up more and more information on alternative O/S on the Atari 680x0 range. I already was familiar with a Linux distribution (see The Linux/m68k Home Pages), but this will be reserved for one of my TT's as my Falcon's don't have an FPU (yet). But on my quest for information I stumbled upon NetBSD/atari, a port of NetBSD to the Atari line of personal computers. Currently, NetBSD/atari runs on the TT030, Falcon and Hades. Experimental support is available for the Milan. It seems there's a lot of nice alternatives to explore!
